What leads one to true fulfillment in life? What is a 'happy' life? The answers are as broad as the questions themselves. Every person on this planet. Every single mind, of the six billion, has a unique view on the world and a particular definition of a happy and full life. Because of this, there's no clear cut and defined route to happiness. There are, however, certain things which contribute to lifelong happiness that hold true for almost everyone. Here's reason number one. 1) Milestones Do Not Contribute to Lasting Happiness
When I was in middle school I sincerely thought that my life would change once I got to high school. I believed that my life would be exponentially better than it already was, and that I'd be happier.
Once I reached high school, and the euphoria of switching schools and meeting new people subsided, I realized that nothing was entirely different from before. While new opportunities were opened for me, and I was in a new chapter of life, my overall happiness and feeling of satisfaction in life was about the same as before. If anything it slightly decreased because of the new responsibilities I assumed at this stage in life.
Later on I experienced the same thing when entering college. The freedom to do whatever I wanted appealed to me. That freedom was supposed to bring me happiness. In reality, that freedom just became a part of my everyday life. It wasn't that big of a deal after a while.
The joy of reaching a milestone: reaching 18 or 21, starting a new job, starting a new school, is fleeting. Once that milestone is reached, and is assimilated into everyday life, it becomes nothing special. Its 'spectacular' qualities fade away. Don't keep hoping that the next chapter in your life will bring you happiness. It'll be as destructive as a drug. Rewrite your chapter now, and fabricate your own happiness.
The joy of reaching a new milestone in life is real, but temporary and quickly fleeting.
